Setting the website’s goals and targets
Any project needs goals and targets to be set in order to measure success. A web site is no exception.
A goal is something you want the web site to achieve.
Targets are stages you aim for along the way to help you reach your
goals.
Your targets should be:
- specific – do they say exactly what it is you need to do?
- measurable – can you show proof that you have achieved your targets?
- achievable – are there funding or any other restrictions?
- realistic – can you really do something about them?
- time-bound – have you decided dates for achieving them?
When you have set targets, you must work hard to achieve them. Writing down your goals and targets will provide a development plan for the web site’s success. You should also review your goals frequently. The more focused you are on your goals, the more likely you are to accomplish them.
In developing your web site, you need to consider:
- What do you want this site to accomplish for you and your users?
- How will you measure this?
Summary:
- Be sure you know what you want your site to accomplish.
- Write down the goals for your site.
- Think of ways to measure success.
