Web Forum - background information

The Web Forum was formed in 2001. From an initially small core of developers, working with Scottish Enterprise Dumfries & Galloway (SEDG) the Web Forum, has steadily grown in size. The Web Forum currently has a membership of 21 web development companies, ranging from sole traders to companies employing more than a dozen people.

During the Foot & Mouth outbreak & recovery the members of the Forum, in conjunction with grant aid from SEDG, built in excess of 400 websites in a twelve month period! This flying start placed the Forum at the forefront of developer's associations, not just here in Scotland but in the UK as a whole. Building on the success of the first year, the Forum continues to work closely with its existing clients, whilst sourcing new ones far and wide. (Our members have built websites for clients worldwide.) Our working relationship with Scottish Enterprise also continues to strengthen, enabling us to access external training and business opportunities as a result.

One of the main benefits of being a member of the Web Forum is the access to a wide range of skill-sets within the membership. By working together, networking, sharing tips and offering advice and help to each other, the Web Forum provides a valued resource base for its members. We are currently looking into mutual training schemes, whereby the members of the Web Forum can bring their individual skill-sets to the group and work with each other on problem solving or using new techniques. Alongside this, we frequently have guest speakers at our meetings, covering topics as diverse as radio/satellite networks across rural communities to trading standards.

We believe our Web Forum to be the best web forum in Scotland, providing its members with support, training, mutal help and encouragement. As a collective, our client base is huge, covering just about everything online from single pages to intensely coded, interactive websites for clients requiring a full e-commerce solution. As a quick glance through our member's skill-sets reveals, we can offer exisiting and potential clients everything they need to get online and then some!
